Strawberries have a history that goes back more than 2,200 years. They are not berries or fruit at all, but enlarged ends of the plants stamen. Strawberry seeds are on the outer skin instead of in the inner berry. There are about 200 seeds per berry.
Harvesting begins in Southern California and moves north as the season progresses. Peak season is between April and June when all of the growing districts are in full production. However, since 50% of the California crop is harvested after June 1, there are still plenty of strawberries available in the late summer and early fall.
The berries are nonfat and low in calories, rich in vitamin C, potassium, folic acid, fiber and vitamin B6. At Naturipe Foods, the healthful qualities of our strawberries remain intact. We add nothing artificialno sweeteners, oils, additives, flavorings or colorings.
Strawberries are among the top five most frequently consumed fruits. As the number-one red fruit, strawberries are rated at the top of the list for shoppers.
